Before you install
Remove any old mats from the car and vacuum the bare carpet underneath. Dust and small debris trapped between the mat and the carpet are the #1 cause of "my mat slides around" reports.
Let leather mats rest first
If you have premium eco-leather mats, lay them flat at room temperature for 30–60 minutes before installing — especially if they were shipped in cold weather. This lets the backing relax into its natural shape.
Step-by-step installation
Identify the correct position
Each mat is labeled or shaped for a specific seat: driver, passenger, rear left, rear right. Double-check the driver's mat has the pedal cutout on the correct side before you place it.
Slide the mat into the footwell
Place the mat face-up, narrow edge toward the front. Slide it forward so the top edge tucks under the dashboard lip where possible. This prevents heel scuffing at the front.
Engage the retention clips
Most modern cars have two plastic hooks in the carpet near the driver's seat. Line up the holes in your mat with these hooks, then press firmly straight down on each one. You should hear a small click as the hook seats.
Check pedal clearance
With the mat installed, press each pedal fully from the driver's seat — accelerator, brake, and clutch (if manual). The mat must not slide under or catch on any pedal. If it does, realign and repeat.
Verify no side-to-side movement
Grip the mat's bottom-front corner and try to shift it left and right. With both clips engaged, it should move less than 1 cm. If it slides more, one of the clips is not seated — press again firmly.
After installation — a 60-second safety check
Always verify before driving
- Both clips audibly clicked when pressed
- The mat does not contact any pedal in its full range
- The mat does not ride up over the seat base
- Rear mats are clear of seat rails and transmission tunnel
- No visible edges curling upward
Troubleshooting installation
The clips don't align with the holes in the mat. See Troubleshooting Clip Alignment. Minor offsets (under 5 mm) can usually be forced into position; larger offsets need a free clip relocation.
The mat won't lay flat — it keeps curling at the back. Shipping rolls can leave a temporary curl. Lay the mat flat, face-up, in a warm room (20–25°C) for 24 hours. For stubborn curl, place a few heavy books on the corners overnight.
The mat blocks the pedal range. Do not drive the vehicle. Remove the mat and open an urgent safety case now — flag it as pedal interference in the wizard. We ship a corrected mat on express freight at no charge and reply the same business day.
Safety first
A floor mat that interferes with the pedals is a serious safety hazard. If anything feels wrong, remove the mat and drive on the factory carpet until we get a replacement to you.
