Why accurate measurements matter
Every AutoWin floor mat is cut, stitched and finished by hand to match the exact dimensions of your vehicle's footwell. Even a 1–2 cm deviation can cause gaps at the seat, overlap with the pedals, or clips that don't click into place.
When you report a fitment issue, our production team rebuilds a CAD template directly from the numbers you send. The more accurate you are, the faster we can ship you a perfect replacement — usually within 5–7 business days of approval.
Before you start
Have ready:
- A metal tape measure (preferred) or a long ruler — cloth tapes stretch and are less accurate
- A smartphone camera with the lens cleaned
- A clean, flat hard surface (hallway, garage floor, kitchen tile)
- Good overhead lighting — avoid shadows across the mat
The two measurement options
You can choose one — or do both for maximum accuracy.
Option A · Measure the mat itself
Lay the mat flat and face-up on a hard surface. This tells us what you actually received — essential when a mat is clearly the wrong size.
Option B · Measure the floor area of your car
Place the tape directly on the vehicle floor where the mat is supposed to sit. Measure the maximum width and length of the footwell. This tells our factory exactly what size the mat needs to be.
Do both whenever possible
If you can send us both sets of numbers — what you received and what your car needs — our team can modify the template with zero guesswork. This is the single biggest factor in a fast, accurate replacement.
The 3-point measurement method
For every mat (driver, passenger, rear left, rear right), we need three measurements.
Length (front to back)
Measure the total length of the mat from the top edge (closest to the dashboard) to the bottom edge (closest to the seat), along the longest point. Make sure the mat is lying flat and straight — do not stretch or compress it.
Example: length = 69 cm.
Width at the widest point
Find the widest horizontal point of the mat and measure edge-to-edge at that line. On most driver mats this is near the top, close to where the door meets the dashboard.
Example: width = 48.5 cm.
Diagonal (corner to corner)
Place the tape at one top corner and stretch it straight to the opposite bottom corner. The diagonal catches mistakes: two mats can share the same length & width but have very different shapes — the diagonal exposes that difference.
Example: diagonal = 79.8 cm.
Measuring the clips (retention hooks)
If your vehicle uses floor mat retention clips, we need four additional measurements so we can reposition the hooks on the mat.
Clip position — top
Measure from the top edge of the mat to the center of the clip hole. This anchors the clip vertically.
Example: 3.4 cm from the top.
Clip position — side
Measure from the nearest side edge to the center of the clip hole.
Example: 4.1 cm from the side.
Distance between clips
If there are two clips, measure center to center between them.
Example: 36.5 cm between clips.
Clip diameter
Measure across the middle of the clip head (not the base). A standard clip is 1.2–1.8 cm.
Example: 1.5 cm diameter.
Tolerance
We can modify clip positions by up to ±5 mm on existing mats, or reposition freely on a replacement. Anything outside that range requires remanufacturing — still free under our guarantee, just slightly longer.
How to photograph your measurements
Clear photos are the second half of a successful claim. Our team reviews them alongside your numbers.
- Phone directly above the mat (90° angle) — not tilted.
- Entire mat visible from edge to edge in one frame.
- Measuring tape visible in the photo when you record a value.
- Use natural daylight or bright overhead light — no flash, no shadow.
- Take one photo per measurement (length, width, diagonal, each clip).
Use your iPhone Measure app
On iPhone, the built-in Measure app gives surprisingly accurate readings for sanity-checking a tape measurement. On Android, Google's Measure works similarly. It should supplement, not replace, your tape measure.

Sending your measurements to us
Once you have your numbers and photos, head to Report an Issue:
- Enter your order number and email — we'll pull up your order automatically.
- Select Fitment & Size Issues and the affected mat position(s).
- Enter your received measurements and, if you have them, the correct measurements from the car.
- Upload at least 3 photos per mat (length, width, diagonal) + one photo of the mat installed in the car.
- Submit — you'll get a confirmation email with a case number.
What happens next
Our quality team reviews every case within 24–48 business hours. You'll either get an immediate approval with a production slot, or a polite request for one or two extra photos.
Common measuring mistakes
- Measuring a curled mat without flattening it first. Even a small lift at the corners shortens your numbers by 1–3 cm.
- Measuring from the carpet seam, not the mat edge. Always measure the mat itself, edge to edge.
- Using a cloth tape that has stretched. Old seamstress tapes can be 2–5 mm long over their full length.
- Rounding aggressively. Record to the nearest 0.5 cm. "About 50 cm" tells us nothing.
- Taking photos at an angle. Straight-down only — parallax at an angle can add 2–4 cm of error.
Still have questions?
If you're unsure about a measurement or need help choosing where to place the tape, the fastest path is to open a fitment case now. You can upload photos directly in the wizard — our production team will review them and reply with a Case ID within one business day, no email required.
